Novak Djokovic wins Japan Open after return from injury

Novak Djokovic of Serbia, the world’s number one male tennis player, made a stunning comeback after recovering from injury to clinch the Japan Open title on Sunday. This is the 31-year-old Djokovic’s fourth title of the year and 76th career total. He defeated Australia’s John Millman in straight sets 6-3 6-2 in the final.

Djokovic, who was playing his first tournament after withdrawing from the US Open due to a shoulder injury in September, won the match in an hour and 10 minutes. Despite this title defeat, world number-80 Milman will now move up to number 58 in the latest ATP rankings released on Monday.

Djokovic said after this win, ‘It was a great week in every sense. I loved it inside and outside the court. The way the people of Japan welcomed me, I felt that it was like my home. Losing not a single set tells that I introduced the best game. I think this is a high level of my game and I hope I will continue it at the Shanghai Masters as well. ‘

Serbian player Djokovic will now look to defend his title at the Shanghai Masters. Djokovic is the top seed in the Shanghai Masters tennis tournament.
