Telecos reduce call ringing duration to 25 secs

Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea have reduced the time of ringing the bells on their outgoing network to 25 seconds. This decision has been taken by both the companies due to the increasing competition with Reliance Jio. Usually, the duration of the phone ringing at the time of the call is from 35 to 40 seconds.

TRAI asked for mutual solution

This step taken by both the companies is also aimed at reducing the cost of the Interconnect Use Charge (IUC) charged on the call as per the time of connection. Interconnect use charge is given on behalf of one network for services provided by other networks. Airtel has reduced the ringing time on its entire network across the country, while Vodafone-Idea has implemented it only in some circles. Telecom Regulatory TRAI had asked to telecos to find a solution among themselves before taking any decision in the matter of interconnect charge.

Customers may face problems

Airtel has informed the TRAI about this through a letter. Airtel said that it has decided to do the Duration of ringing the phone for 25 seconds. This decision has been taken in response to Jio. This can also cause problems for customers. Due to no clear instructions in this regard from the Regulatory, the company has no other option left.

Jio was accused of cheating

The dispute of all telecom companies over the case of IUC was reached with the Telecom Regulator TRAI. Airtel had accused Jio of cheating for paying less money for connecting to other networks. Actually IUC is proposed to be dissolved from January 2020. But it is still being reviewed by TRAI regarding its deadline.
