UN faces financial crises as many members yet to pay dues

The organization that keeps the countries of the world united is currently struggling with shortage of money. The amount of money that was kept in reserve with the United Nations (UN) is also going to end. And this shortage has become so much that the United Nations does not even have money to pay salaries to its officials. This information was given by Antonio Guterres, the Secretary General of the United Nations himself. Meanwhile, India and Pakistan have repaid their dues to the United Nations.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said on Monday that the United Nations fund will expire at the end of this month. Out of 193 members of the United Nations, only 128 have paid their dues till October 3.

According to American media reports, the United Nations has warned its employees that the organization will face a shortfall of $ 230 million in its budget.

Let us know that the regular budget of the United Nations is $ 5.4 billion, which is different from the budget of $ 6.5 billion spent on peacekeeping.

If we talk about India, India has paid 232.5 lakh dollars of its share in regular budget on 30th January itself. India is one of the few member countries of the United Nations that has paid on time. Talking about Pakistan, the neighboring country has paid US $ 3,206,460.

If the countries that owed them did not pay any more money this month, the United Nations would have to spend temporarily in its working capital. Actually, one reason for lack of funds with the United Nations is America, which has not paid its dues. The United States contributes 22 percent to the regular budget of the United Nations.

The United Nations is facing a periodic budget crisis due to non-payment of dues by member countries at the beginning of the year. The number of countries that have paid the entire amount this year has reduced considerably compared to last year.

Syed Akbaruddin, India’s permanent representative in the United Nations, has repeatedly mentioned that this will affect the countries contributing to the work of peacekeeping of the United Nations. Significantly, India not only contributes to the budget but also to peace operations on a large scale, India has been continuously raising the voice of change in the United Nations.
