Cabinet approves Private Data Protection Bill 2019

The central government has taken a big decision regarding the privacy of the common man. In the Cabinet meeting on Thursday, the Central Government has approved the Private Data Protection Bill 2019. Now, if a company, site or app steals your data, then it will incur heavy penalty.

After the cabinet’s approval, the central government will present this bill in Parliament. The government released a draft bill last year, which was opposed by many global companies. Companies said that this would affect their business. Also, operating expenses will increase. The draft of the bill was based on a report submitted in July 2018 by Justice BN Srikrishna. Information about the final draft of the Bill has not been received. But in the draft bill, there was a provision to use people’s data only with their permission. Also, a rule was established to establish a server form for data collection in the country itself.

Modi cabinet approved the citizenship amendment bill

The proposed bill provides for a penalty of Rs 15 crore or four per cent of the company’s total turnover for violation of data protection rules. In recent times, the government has become more cautious after a dent in the security of data on WhatsApp. There was a ruckus about this matter. In the WhatsApp case, Ravi Shankar Prasad had said that the government takes privacy seriously and confidentiality of information is part of it.
