Semester system to be implemented in many UOU courses

Semester system will be implemented in undergraduate and postgraduate courses from Uttarakhand Open University (UOU) from session 2020-21. Preparations have been started after getting the green signal on the issue in the Open University meeting. Currently, about 70 thousand students are studying in Uttarakhand Open University.

The UGC (University Grants Commission) has issued orders to implement the semester system in all courses from the session 2020-21 in all open universities operating on ODL (Open and Distance Education System) across the country. Discussion was going on in Uttarakhand Open University for the last several days about this imperative of UGC. In this regard, The proposal to implement the semester system was approved in a meeting chaired by Prof. OPS Negi, Vice Chancellor in Open University .

Director Academic Prof. RC Mishra, citing UGC’s letter, explained the imperative of implementing the semester system. During this, Director Prof. HP Shukla, Director Prof. Girija Shankar Pandey, Director Science and Examination Controller Prof. PD Pant, were present.

Semester will be applied in these courses

All subjects of BA, BSc, BCom, MA, MSc, M.Com, BA in Yoga, BTH (Bachelor of Tourism) etc. courses are included.

Uttarakhand Open University has about 82 courses, of which several courses, including MBA, BBA, Social Work, Computer Science and Journalism courses are running on semester system.

It has been decided to implement the semester system from the new semester 2020-21 at UOU. Admission to all courses in July 2020 will be done on semester basis. The existing study material (books) of all the courses will be divided into two parts according to the semester system. Along with this, the syllabus will be prepared according to the semester. It will take time. Preparations have been started for this.
