The students’ union says that only 50-60 students doing research on a subject like life science have registered for the winter session so far. Students say that Vice Chancellor M Jagdish Kumar should withdraw the increased fees.

Seeing the students’ protest, the JNU administration issued a notice on Saturday. A copy of the notice has also been sent to the Ministry of Human Resources. In this notice issued by co-registrar Manoj Kumar, it is stated that “All students are informed that classes in the university and educational activities in all schools and special centers are being started from Monday”.

The administration has said that students who have gone out of the city due to fear of violence or any other reason should return. Significantly, angry with the increase in fees and increase in hostel charges, JNU Students’ Union is boycotting the new session. Many students are also on strike against this fee hike. At the same time, the Ministry of Human Resource Development has asked the Vice Chancellor of JNU to restore educational activities in the university. The ministry wants the students’ strike that has been going on for almost two and a half months to end. For this, at present, it has been decided not to collect the increased fees from the students in this session. It will present additional grant to UGC University for increased fees.
