Current government not ready to accept recession says former PM Manmohan Singh

Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Wednesday attacked the Modi government over the state of the country’s economy. He said that the present government is not accepting the word ‘recession’. He said that the real danger is that if problems are not identified, it is meaningless to expect reliable answers to take corrective action.

On the launch of Montek Singh Ahluwalia’s book, Singh said that the former Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission has written a good book. He also mentioned weak aspects of the UPA government in it. He said that these issues should be debated and will also happen because today there is a government in the country that is not accepting the word like recession. This is not true for our country. If you do not accept the problem you are facing, you cannot find a reliable answer to its solution. This is the real danger.

He said that “this book will prove to be very helpful in the future development of the country. Montek has mentioned about the points in the book that can help to reach $ 5 trillion of the country’s economy by 2024-25. At the same time, there is no reason to expect that the income of farmers will double in the next three years”. Singh praised former Prime Minister Narasimha Rao, P. Chidambaram, and Ahluwalia for helping to initiate economic reforms in the 1990s.
