US Based company claims success in preventing Covid-19
A US company has claimed that it has found a ‘cure’ for the coronavirus. According to a Fox News report, California-based biotech company Sorrento Therapeutics has stated that they have prepared an antibody named STI-1499.
The company said that it was found in the Petri dish experiment that the STI-1499 antibody prevents the corona virus 100 percent from spreading infection in human cells.
The Sorento company is working with the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York to produce several antibodies. The plan is to create a ‘cocktail of medicine’ by mixing several antibodies.
According to the Daily Mail report, the Sorento company has said in a press release that it can prepare 2 lakh doses of antibodies in a month. The company has sent an application to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) of the United States for approval to use the STI-1499 antibody. The company has sought approval on emergency basis.
Stock Price jumps by 220 percent
After this news, there was a 220 per cent jump in the price of the company’s stock. Sorento CEO Dr. Henry G told Fox News- ‘We want to say that there is a cure for this. This treatment is 100 percent effective.’
CEO Dr. Henry said that if antibodies are present in your body to neutralize the virus, then you will not need social distancing. Restrictions can be removed without fear.
However, this antibody has been tested on human cells in the lab. It has not been directly tested on humans. The side effects of antibodies are also not known at present and it is not known how it will behave in human body.
