Roger Federer to return to tour in 2021

Swiss tennis legend Roger Federer (39) has undergone another surgery for his right knee. For this reason, he will not be able to play in any tournament including the US and French Open this year. However, almost all tennis tournaments have been postponed except for the two Grand Slams due to Coronavirus.

At the same time, Novak Djokovic of Serbia is considering withdrawing from the US Open due to the Corona outbreak. World number-1 Djokovic won the Australian Open title for a record 8th time earlier this year.

Wimbledon canceled due to Corona

This year the US Open in New York is scheduled to be played from 24 August to 13 September. The condition of Corona in the US is very bad. A week later, the French Open will be held from 13 September to 4 October. Earlier this tournament was to be held from May 24. Wimbledon has already been canceled due to Corona.

 

Federer will return in early 2021

Federer underwent right knee surgery in February this year. Then he had planned to stay away from tennis for about 4 months. Federer tweeted on Wednesday that he would abstain from tennis until early 2021. He is taking time off to be 100% ready. Federer had applied similar strategy in 2017 when he returned to the tennis court after recuperating from injury in the second half of 2016. He went on to win the Australian Open upon his return defeating arch rival Rafael Nadal.

Most players do not want to play US Open

At the same time, Djokovic told the Serbian TV channel RTS on Tuesday that due to Corona, the conditions will be challenged during the Grand Slam tournament in New York. He said, “All the players I have talked to, they were not quite ready to go there (New York). Given the current circumstances, I can continue the tennis session on clay courts in September. “More than 20.45 lakh have been found infected in the US as of Wednesday. Out of these, 1 lakh 14 thousand 151 people died.

Roger Federer tops the singles Grand Slam in the men’s category with 20 titles. He has won 8 Wimbledon, 6 Australian Open, 5 US Open and one French Open. At the same time, Djokovic has 17 Grand Slams. He has won 8 Australian Open, 5 Wimbledon, 1 French Open and 3 US Open.
