TikTok among 59 Chinese App banned by Government of India

The government has banned 59 Chinese apps, including the popular Chinese app TikTok. These Chinese apps are believed to be a matter of privacy protection. Apart from TikTok, 58 other popular apps that have faced ban including Shareit, Hello, UC Browser, Likey and WeChat.

As per the order issued by the government, the government banned 59 mobile apps which were prejudicial to India’s sovereignty and integrity, defense of India, security of the state and public order.

On behalf of the government, it was said that there were increased concerns about the aspects related to data security and the privacy protection of 130 crore Indians. Recently it has been noted that the sovereignty and security of our country is also threatened by such concerns.

There have been allegations even earlier on Chinese applications of stealing Indian data and sending it to Chinese servers. The ministry says that in the last few days, the Ministry of Information Technology has received several complaints from various sources, stating that these Chinese apps available on Android and iOS steal and misuse their data without the knowledge of the users. At the same time, users are sending their data in an unauthorized way to those servers which are located outside India.
