Brazilian researchers claim to have cured HIV +ve patient through medicines

A Brazilian man has been cured from HIV. This claim has been made by researchers at the Federal University of São Paulo. According to the researchers, a combination of antiretroviral drugs and nicotinamide drugs were given to the HIV patient. It is claimed that the patient has become virus free. Researchers have not named the patient.

Combination of medication given every two months

The researchers made this disclosure at the recently concluded AIDS 2020 conference online. According to researcher Dr. Ricardo Diaz, a Brazilian man was diagnosed with HIV in October 2012. In the trial, the patient discontinued the medicines taken during the treatment of AIDS. During the research, the patient was given combination of antiretroviral drugs and nicotinamide drugs every two months for a long time.

A year later, when the patient’s blood test was done, the report came back negative. It was not known what the antibody levels were to eliminate the virus in the patient’s body. According to the researchers, the combination of drugs worked better.

The patient said, it’s like a life gift

After recovery, the patient said that ‘I have got a second life. I am virus free, millions of HIV infected patients want this. This life is like a gift.’

If this case is confirmed, it would be the first case of AIDS, where HIV was removed from the body without a stem cell transplant. A person in London was freed from HIV thorugh a stem cell transplant.

Whether or not the virus appears again, being monitored

According to researchers, the patient is alive and virus-free. This proves that AIDS can be treated. Currently, experts are constantly monitoring the matter whether the Brazilian man is at risk of getting the virus again. This will come to the fore in further testing.

AIDS patients can lead normal lives with medicines

According to researchers, once humans become infected, the AIDS makes it difficult to eject or kill HIV because they make a home in blood cells. Live here for a long time and do not leave the host through medicines. Only infection can be controlled with medicines.

If the patient stops the medicines once, the virus activates itself and the disease starts showing its effect again. Advanced drugs can help a patient to a lead a normal life.

Experts believe more cases required to prove credibility

According to Dr. Monica Gandhi, an AIDS specialist at the University of California, this information is quite interesting, but it is at an early stage because it has happened to only one person. 4 others were given the same treatment but did not succeed. This is a pilot project of sorts.
