Dhoni headache for BCCI ahead of team announcement for WI tour

Confusion over the availability on the selection of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, and availability of skipper Virat Kohli in limited overs format for the West Indies tour has become a bane for the BCCI. In this case, the selection committee was postponed on Friday. The meeting of the Selection Committee for the West Indies tour was proposed on Friday but it has been postponed. Now this meeting may take place on Sunday but no notice has been issued by the BCCI on this.

India have to play three T20, three ODIs and two Tests on the tour of West Indies beginning August 3. The meeting was postponed when it was decided by the Supreme Court that the Board of Governors (CoA), formed by the Supreme Court on Thursday, decided under the new constitution that Secretary of the BCCI can not take part in the selection committee meeting.

Within a week of the end of the World Cup, the team was to be selected and Virat Kohli was to be rested in the T20 and ODI series. Rohit Sharma was given the captaincy of both of these conditions, but on Thursday, Kohli declared himself available for the selection for limited-overs series on the West Indies tour. It is believed that after the news of differences in the team came out he decided this. At the same time, the former captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni could not be available for the series and no news about his future is known.

A decision on Dhoni

A BCCI selector said that there have been no talks with Dhoni right now. When the notice of the meeting of the selection committee comes out, then chief selector MSK Prasad can talk to him. All the selectors are currently in their respective cities and when they will know about the meeting only then will  further talks will be held. At the same time, a BCCI official also said that selectors should talk to Dhoni. If Dhoni proposes to play the farewell series at home then the selectors can tell this to the board, then the chairman or secretary will have to take a decision on this.
