Sero survey reveals every 1 in 15 India above 10 years age exposed to Covid-19

According to the second national sero survey report of the ICMR, one person is out of 15 persons above ten years and above is estimated to be in the grip of SARS-COV2 by August 2020. This survey indicates the possibility of large population still being affected by Coronavirus infection. The findings of the second sero survey of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) were released on Tuesday.

Presenting the nationwide sero survey at a press conference, ICMR Director-General Balram Bhargava said that from August 17 to September 22, 29,082 people (10 years and above) were surveyed, with 6.6 percent of SARS-COV2 vulnerable. Signs of having been seen in 7.1 percent of the adult population (18 years and above) also showed symptoms before becoming vulnerable. He said that the second sero survey shows the possibility of a large population still being affected by coronavirus infection.

“SARS-COV2 prevalence is higher in urban slums (15.6 percent), non-slums (8.2 percent) areas than in rural areas (4.4 percent),” Bhargava said, quoting the second sero survey. “By August 2020, out of 15 people above ten years and above, was estimated to be vulnerable to SARS-COV2.” The second sero survey was conducted in the same 700 villages and wards in 70 districts of 21 states where the first survey was conducted.

In the second sero survey, fewer cases of infection in August than in May show sufficient speed in the testing and detection of cases in the country. Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan said that in India there are 4,453 cases of Covid-19 per million population and there are 70 cases of death, which is the lowest in the world.

NITI Aayog member VK Paul urged people to follow the guidelines of Covid-19 and said that there is no reason to be negligent. He said, ‘We need to celebrate Puja, Chhath, Diwali and Eid by wearing a mask, it is very important to keep this in mind. We have seen increasing cases of corona virus in Delhi, Kerala and Punjab for the second time and therefore we should not be negligent and follow the Covid-19 guidelines. ‘
