Government allows domestic airlines to operate at 70 percent capacity

In view of the continuous increase in the number of Domestic Flyers, the Central Government has now approved more flights to Indian Airlines. The Civil Aviation Ministry has announced an exemption to domestic airline companies to fill up the Flight Capacity with 70 per cent capacity before the Corona crisis had hit the nation. Currently, domestic airlines are approved for flight operations with 60 percent capacity.

60% capacity was fixed by 24 February 2021

Union minister Hardeep Singh Puri said that on 25 May domestic flights were started with 30,000 passengers. Puri said that on 8 November 2020, the number of domestic air passengers has reached 2.06 lakh. The Ministry of Civil Aviation had said last week that domestic airlines can operate flights up to 60 per cent of the capacity before the Corona crisis had hit by 24 February 2021. Now the government has increased this limit to 70 percent in view of the ever increasing demand.

With increasing demand, the central government gave such relaxations to companies

Two months after the lockdown was lifted, the central government had approved starting the domestic flight service from May 25. However, airlines were allowed to operate flights with a maximum of 33 percent capacity. After this, the government increased this limit to 45 per cent on 26 June and 60 per cent on 2 September, when demand increased. However, in the announcement made on September 2, the government did not tell how long this limit will remain in force. After this, last week it was said by the government that this limit will remain in force till 24 February 2021.

Airlines expected to achieve 100% capacity soon

After the center allowed to operate flights with 70 per cent capacity, now the airlines hope that soon the government will extend this exemption and the domestic flight service will return to normal before the Corona crisis. Vistara hopes that from April 2021, the company will start operating flights with 100 percent capacity. Currently, Vistara is operating flights with around 55 per cent capacity. At the same time, SpiceJet is operating with 52 percent capacity. Let us know that all regular international flights are still temporarily canceled.
