Garhwal University postpones exams between 9 to 15 April due to Kumbh

Due to Kumbh Mela in Haridwar,  Garhwal University has postponed the semester examinations scheduled to be held from April 9 to April 15. The university has taken this decision in view of the crowd of devotees in the Maha Kumbh. The revised dates will be announced later. At the same time, the paramedical examinations running on the orders of the Nainital High Court will continue unchanged.

At present, semester examinations of undergraduate, postgraduate and professional courses are going on in Garhwal University. University’s Assistant Registrar (Examination) Arvind Kumar said that a large number of devotees have reached Haridwar Mahakumbh. In such a situation, taking cognizance of the safety of students and the order of District Magistrate Haridwar, it has been decided to postpone the examinations which were to be held between April 9 to 15. The date of the postponed examinations will be uploaded on the website of Garhwal University soon.

The Kumbh Mela has started in Haridwar from April 1. Crowds arriving at royal baths on 12th and 14th April may present a risk of spreading the Corona infection. Therefore, as a precautionary District Magistrate C Ravi Shankar has issued orders to close all schools  in the district from April 9 to April 15.

Principal of MMJN PG College in Haridwar, Dr. Sunil Kumar Batra also demanded the university administration to postpone the examinations during Kumbh Mela or declare new dates so that students do not face any difficulty in taking the examinations.

In view of this, on Thursday, the Controller of Examinations of the University, Arun Rawat, has postponed the examinations falling on the days of bathing festivals of Kumbh Mela.
