Bibcol gets nod to manufacture Covaxin

Corona is at its peak in the country right now, so in order to avoid another outbreak of this pandemic and to fight the next wave, it is necessary to accelerate vaccination. But it is not possible that only one company can meet the vaccine requirements of a big country like India. In such a situation, it is not easy to meet the demand of the country until different companies enter the field of vaccine production.

Keeping this in mind, made in India Covaxin, which is being manufactured by Bharat Biotech, will also be made by Bibcol, a Bulandshahr-based company. Every month, 2 crore doses of vaccine will be manufactured.

The Health Ministry has approved a budget of Rs 30 crore for this. The MoU has been signed between Bharat Biotech and Bibcol, the maker of Covaxin. So far, the Department of Biotechnology, India-based company Bibcol (Bharat Immunologicals and Biologicals Corporation Limited) manufactures polio vaccine. Bulandshahr DM Ravindra Kumar inspected the Bibcol site authorized to make Covaxin. He also reviewed the preparations for the manufacture of vaccine.

Bibcol is a public sector unit which was established in 1989. It was the dream project of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi through which he wanted to make the country self-sufficient in supplies of polio vaccine.
