Djokovic ends Nadal’s perfect French Open Semi-Final streak

In the marquee semi-final match of the French Open 2021, Novak Djokovic defeated Rafael Nadal to enter the final. In the final, Djokovic will face Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece, who defeated Germany’s Alexander Zverev in the other semi-final.

Nadal, who won the French Open four times in a row from 2017 to 2020, was stunned by 2016 French Open winner Djokovic 3-6, 6-3, 7-6, 6-2. For Nadal, the 13-time French Open winner and king of clay, this defeat is a huge blow. Nadal had defeated Djokovic 6-0, 6-2, 7-5 in the final of the French Open last year.

Djokovic becomes only player to beat Nadal twice at French Open

Defeating Nadal on clay is a tough ask, winning over him on the red clay of Paris is so difficult that only two players have achieved it since 2005. With his win over the Spaniard, Djokovic achieved a feat by no one before, he became the only player to have beaten Rafael Nadal at Roland Garros twice.

In this 58th match between the two, Djokovic defeated Nadal 3-6, 6-3, 7-6, 6-2. With this Djokovic has entered the final for his 19th title match. If he wins the final match, he will have the charisma of winning all Grand Slams twice in the open era history of tennis in 50 years.

The second semi-final was also very exciting as Stefanos Tsitsipas defeated Alexander Zverev 6-3, 6-3, 4-6, 4-6, 6-3 in a five-set match.

Czech Republic’s Barbara Krejcikova will face Russia’s Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in the women’s singles final. In the semi-finals, Barbara Krejcikova defeated Maria Sakkari of Greece 7-5, 4-6, 9-7 and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova defeated Tamara Zidansek of Slovenia 7-5, 6-3. Significantly, both the players have reached the singles final of a Grand Slam for the first time.
