TS Rawat submits resignation as Chief Minister of Uttarakhand

Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat resigned from his post on Friday evening. He submitted his resignation to the Governor Baby Rani Maurya. Who will be the next Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, it will be decided in the meeting of the Legislature on Saturday. He was accompanied by BJP state president Madan Kaushik, along with several cabinet members and MLAs. Earlier, Uttarakhand CM Tirath Singh Rawat did not announce his resignation from the post of CM, but had counted his governments achievements. If sources are to be believed, this time the BJP high command is in the mood to hand over the chief minister’s post to someone from among the MLAs.

Gangotri and Haldwani assembly seats in Uttarakhand are lying vacant due to the death of sitting MLAs. The term of the current assembly will end in March 2022. This means that only 9 months are left for the completion of the term of this assembly. At the same time, Lok Sabha member Tirath Singh Rawat took oath as CM on March 10. In such a situation, it was necessary for him to become an MLA within six months of taking oath. Constitutionally, it is not possible for Tirath Singh Rawat to continue in the post of Chief Minister after 9th September. Now, under Section 151A of the Representation of the People Act, a bye-election cannot be held where there is only one year left for the general election.

On the other hand, Tirath Singh Rawat needed to contest and win the assembly by-elections to remain the Chief Minister. The Chief Minister of BJP has made a new record in Uttarakhand. Tirath Singh Rawat sat on the Chief Minister’s chair for just over 100 days. The BJP high command had given the command of Uttarakhand to Tirath Singh Rawat from former Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat on 10 March 2021. As soon as he got the command, he started the work with full enthusiasm by taking over the chair of the Chief Minister.
