England defeat India by innings and 76 runs; level series 1-1

England won the third match of the 5-Test series between India and England by an innings and 76 runs. In this match played at Headingley (Leeds), Team India was reduced to 278 runs in the second innings on the fourth day. With this the series has become level at 1-1. India had won the last Test played at Lord’s. The next match will be played from September 2 at the Kennington Oval.

This is the biggest defeat of the Indian team this year. The team has played 10 Tests in 2021. Out of this, 5 tests were won, while 3 tests were lost. Prior to this match, India had lost by 227 runs against England in Chennai and against New Zealand by 8 wickets in the World Test Championship final.

Team India lost 8 wickets in 63 runs

Team India scored 78 runs in the first innings. On the other hand, England scored 432 runs in the first innings. In this way, England had a lead of 354 runs. Team India started playing ahead of 215 runs for 2 wickets on the fourth day and got all out till 278 runs.

In making 63 runs, the team lost the wickets of Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane, Rishabh Pant, Mohammed Shami, Ishant Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammad Siraj. Pujara played the highest innings of 91 runs for India. Apart from this, Kohli scored 55 runs.

Team India bundled out for 78 in the first innings

Team India was reduced to 78 runs in the first innings. Only 2 Indian batsmen could touch the double figure. Rohit Sharma was the highest scorer with 19 runs. Apart from this, Virat Kohli could score 7 runs, Cheteshwar Pujara 1 run, Lokesh Rahul 0, Ajinkya Rahane 18 runs and Pant could only make 2 runs. James Anderson and Craig Overton took 3 wickets each and Ollie Robinson and Sam Curran took 2 wickets a piece.
