Sumit breaks world record in Javelin throw; second gold for India at Paralympics 2020

Indian athletes continue to shine at the Tokyo Paralympic Games. On Monday morning, Avani Lekhara won India’s first gold medal of the year by winning gold in the Class SH1 event of the 10m Air Rifle. Meanwhile, on this day, India’s second gold medal has also come in this year’s Paralympics. India’s Sumit Antil hits gold in the F64 event of javelin throw.

Sumit created history

India’s javelin thrower Sumit Antil has won India’s second gold medal at the Tokyo Paralympic Games. He has captured this medal with a world record. Sumit, playing Paralympic for the first time, threw a world record of 68.08 meters in his second attempt of the F-64 event of javelin throw. Not only this, he improved it further in his fifth attempt and set a world record with a throw of 68.55 meters.

Sumit’s spear covered a long distance during this entire event. He completed every one of his efforts with full vigor. Sumit, who made the world record in two attempts, threw the javelin 66.95 meters in his first attempt. This too was a record. At the same time, he threw 65.27 in the third attempt, 66.71 in the fourth and 68.55 meters in the fifth attempt.

India’s third medal in Javelin

India has won the most medals this year in the javelin throw event. Before Sumit, India’s Devendra Jhajharia won a silver medal in the F-46 event. While, Sundar Singh also won the bronze medal of the same event. India now has 7 medals in this year’s Paralympic Games. India has so far won 2 Gold, 4 Silver and a Bronze medal.
