Virat Kohli steps down as Test captain

Indian cricket team’s Test captain Virat Kohli has resigned from his post. On Saturday, Kohli surprised everyone by announcing his decision to step down as Test captain in a message on social media. He left the captaincy of this format before the ICC T20 World Cup played in UAE last year. After this, the selectors had decided to remove him from the captaincy of the ODI team. Now Kohli has also given up the captaincy of Test. He will play as a player in the team and make his contribution.

On Saturday evening, Virat took to social media to announce the relinquishment of his Test captaincy. While issuing a message, he thanked the BCCI for giving him the opportunity to captain the team. Kohli wrote, “It’s been 7 years of hardworking, toil and relentless perseverance everyday to take the team in the right direction”.’ I did my work with utmost sincerity and did not leave any stone unturned in it. Everything has to stop at some point or the other. Now that time has come for me as a Test captain.

There were many ups and downs in this journey for me and there were ups and downs in my personal career as well, but during this time there was never any lack of effort on my part or there was a lack of confidence in myself. I have always given my 120 percent in whatever I have done and if one is not able to do so then I know that it will not be right to do it. My heart is completely clear about this one thing and I cannot be dishonest towards my team.’

India lost 1-2 in the recently played South Africa Test series. After winning the first match of the series, the team was constantly under criticism after losing the next two matches.
