Chandigarh power crisis: Agitating employees end strike

The power crisis in Chandigarh is now over. Electricity department employees called off their strike after three days. The power supply, which was stalled due to the strike, is now back to normal. The electricity union, which went on strike against the privatization of the electricity department, has announced to withdraw its strike. Power supply is back to normal in most areas of Chandigarh.

Earlier, due to the strike by the electricity workers, the power supply in Chandigarh had collapsed. The help of Indian Army had to be taken to deal with the situation. Army personnel and engineers of the electricity department were busy to bring the situation back to normal.

In Chandigarh, the employees sat on a protest against the privatization of the electricity department. Due to which the power supply in the city came to a standstill. Due to the power outage, the water supply in the city also stopped. There was darkness in people’s homes since Sunday night. Meanwhile, on Wednesday, the Chandigarh Administration had assured the Punjab and Haryana High Court to restore 100% electricity by 10 pm on Wednesday. Now the electricity union has called off its strike.

Locals, who were facing trouble due to the disruption in power supply, had accused the city administration of being a mute spectator. Congress MP from Anandpur Sahib in Punjab Manish Tewari had sought the intervention of Union Home Minister Amit Shah in the matter, saying that there is chaos and anarchy like situation in Chandigarh and all essential services have come to a standstill.
