US puts sanctions on oil imports from Russia

America has dealt a big blow to Russia, which is waging war against Ukraine. The US on Tuesday decided to impose sanctions on imports of Russian oil. The biggest reason behind this move of America is to tighten the screws on Russia’s economy. This is because Russia has ignored the appeal of America in the war against Ukraine.

US President Joe Biden has decided to impose sanctions on Russian oil imports, hardening the toll on Russia’s economy, in retaliation for the attack on Ukraine, according to the Associated Press. After the attack on Ukraine, many countries have started tightening the noose on Russia. However, there is no impact on Russia yet and the war continues.

Energy giant Shell on Tuesday announced it would stop buying crude oil and natural gas from Russia in the wake of Russia’s attack on Ukraine. Shell said in a statement that it would phase out all hydrocarbon purchases — crude oil, petroleum products, natural gas and liquefied natural gas (LNG) — from Russia in a phased manner.

Simultaneously, Shell has also decided to close its service stations and other operations in Russia. A few days ago, Ukraine’s foreign minister criticized Shell for continuing to purchase oil from Russia.
