UGC issues guidelines to universities for two degree programs

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has written a letter to the Vice Chancellors of all universities and principals of institutions and colleges. In this paper, the guideline related to achieving two degrees simultaneously has been mentioned. The UGC has said that the New Education Policy, 2020 seeks to make education more experiential, holistic, integrated, inquiry-driven, discovery-oriented, learner-centred, discussion-based, simple and enjoyable. Accordingly, arrangements have now been made to make different subjects creative combination and imaginative. Now work is being done to create new possibilities for the students by removing the old barriers.

The UGC further informed that in view of the increasing demand for higher education and limited number of seats, many higher educational institutions continue to offer open and distance learning courses. There are many courses that students can complete from the comfort of their homes. The demand of students to obtain two degrees simultaneously (as suggested in the New Education Policy, 2020) has been examined by the Commission. It emphasizes the need for facilitating both formal and non-formal education modes.

Appeal to implement the guideline

The UGC said in the end of its letter that in view of the above demands, the Commission has issued a guideline related to the completion of two degrees simultaneously. All the universities, colleges and institutions have been requested to implement these guidelines for the convenience of the students.

The PDF related to the guidelines related to the completion of two degrees simultaneously has been released by the University Grants Commission on the official website. Interested students can check and download by visiting the official website of UGC www.ugc.ac.in.
