Team India defeat Indonesia to win Thomas Cup 2022

The Indian badminton team has finally done something that no one could have imagined. After a long wait of 7 decades, the Indian team defeated defending champion and 14-time Thomas Cup title Indonesia 3-0 in Bangkok, giving Indian badminton a golden memory that hardly any sports lover will forget. On this victory of India, coach Pullela Gopichand, who breathed new life into Indian badminton, has shared the moments on his social media in which the national anthem of the country is being played and the tricolor is going to the top. Sharing this video, he wrote that India has won the first Thomas Cup and India has become the sixth country in terms of winning the Thomas Cup. He even hailed this historic feat to what the Indian cricket team achieved in 1983 cricket world cup.

First Lakshya Sen gave India a winning start followed by Satwik-Chirag gave India victory in the second match. After this Kidambi Srikanth won the third match and made the Indian team the champion of Thomas Cup for the first time. Lakshya Sen defeated defending champion Anthony Sinisuka Ginting of Indonesia 8-21, 21-17, 21-16 in the opening match. In the second match, the pair of Satwik Sairaj & Chirag Shetty also won 18-21, 23-21, 21-19. In the third match, Srikanth created history by defeating Christie 21-15, 23-21.

For the first time in the history of 73 years of Thomas Cup, Indian team has become champion. This tournament was being played since 1949, but till now teams like Indonesia, China, Denmark and Malaysia were dominating this tournament, which India has ended. India is the sixth team to have won this tournament.

The Indian team made it to the final for the first time by defeating strong teams like Malaysia and Denmark. India had lost only one round in this tournament, when it was defeated by Chinese Taipei in the group stage. At the same time, Indonesia’s team was invincible in this tournament before the final. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also congratulated Team India for the victory.
