He said that in the first week of May, a meeting of the Digital Communications Committee (DCC) is going to be held regarding the auction. He said that the department is also waiting for the recommendations of TRAI. Vaishnav has also said that TRAI had recommended to the government to conduct auction of 1 lakh MHz spectrum for Rs 7.5 lakh crore. He had also said that its validity would be 30 years. This process has started at the government level. When the auction ends, 5G will be launched.

What is the ‘G’ generation of internet?

The ‘G’ used for the Internet means generation. Like the first generation internet is called 1G. The Internet, which started in the year 1979, was called the 1G generation, which had expanded worldwide by 1984.

Similarly, 2G internet was launched in 1991. 2G internet had higher speed than 1G. While the 1G speed was 2.4 Kbps, the 2G internet speed increased to 64 Kbps.

After this, 3G internet was launched for the first time in 1998, 4G in 2008 and 5G internet in 2019. Even though 5G internet has been launched in 2019 itself, but it is yet to be launched in India.

In December, the central government had told that in which 13 cities of the country 5G internet is going to start first. These include Delhi, Lucknow, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Chennai, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Pune, Gandhinagar, Jamnagar, Ahmedabad, Gurugram and Chandigarh.
