Gun control bill passed in US senate

Gun control bill in America passed by Senate, will soon take the form of law after passing from second house.

The US Senate on Thursday night passed a historic gun safety bill to curb shooting incidents in the country. In this, along with the ruling Democrats, 15 Republican lawmakers also supported it. It is also expected to be passed by the House of Representatives soon. After this, it will take the form of law with the signature of President Joe Biden. Once a law is made, the right to own a gun will be only for self-defense. This is America’s first major initiative in federal gun law reform in the past thirty years. On Thursday, just hours before the bill was passed in the Senate, the US Supreme Court struck down the New York gun reform law as unconstitutional.

The new law includes several conditions, including strict background checks for people under the age of 21 who buy guns. The bill provides for $13.2 billion, which includes millions of dollars for mental health, school safety, crisis intervention programs and incentives for states to include juvenile records in the national rapid criminal background check system.

The demand for a gun control law has intensified after some recent incidents of gun firing in the US. On May 24, 19 children and two teachers were killed in a shooting at a school in Uvalde, Texas. The incident happened ten days earlier after a shooting at a Buffalo supermarket that left ten people dead.
