Iga Swiatek wins 2nd French Open title of her career

World number one Iga Swiatek of Poland defeated young American Coco Gauff 6-1, 6-3 in the final on Saturday to win her second French Open women’s title. Number one player Swiatek registered a win in her 35th consecutive match. Poland’s Iga Swiatek won her second Roland Garros title with a 6-1, 6-3 win over American star Coco Gauff.

Gauff, playing her first Grand Slam final, could not present any special challenge to Swiatek in the title match and lost in successive sets. 21-year-old Iga registered a 6-1, 6-3 win over Gauff in just 68 minutes. The only player from her country to win a major singles title in tennis, she also equaled Venus Williams’ record for most consecutive matches won by a female player in this century (since 2000).

Iga Swiatek has now won all three matches of her career with Gauff, who was playing her first major final. She celebrated with friends and family after winning his sixth consecutive title this year and has a 42-3 win-loss record this season. She had also won the French Open in her breakout season in 2020.
