Tsitsipas defeats Nadal in Australian Open Quarter Finals

Rafael Nadal lost to Stephanos Sitsipas in the Australian Open 2021 quarterfinal match. With this, Nadal’s dream of winning the Grand Slam for the 21st time has also ended for the time being. Nadal was beaten by Tsitsipas 3-6, 2-6, 7-6, 6-4 and 7-5 in an epic five-set match. Nadal was one of the strong contenders to win this trophy. Djokovic seems to be at the forefront of his first Grand Slam of the year after Nadal’s exit.

At the Australian Open last year too, Nadal lost to Dominic Thiem in a quarterfinal match. In a five-match match, Nadal was defeated by Tsitsipas after a tough struggle.  Nadal was injured before the start of the tournament and was struggling with his back problem. For the first time in his career, Roger Federer is not taking part in the Australian Open due to injury.

Nadal praised Stephanos after his defeat and said that he played better than me on special occasions. He said, ‘I tried to give my best. I think I was positive throughout the match, I did fight and it was not enough at all. Some days are quite rough, of which today was a day. ‘ After the victory, Stephanos said that he was flying like a bird and everything was going right for him.

In the first Grand Slam Australian Open Men’s Singles event of the year, World No-2 Spain’s Rafael Nadal suffered a reversal. He was beaten by World No. 5 Greece’s Stephanos Tsitsipas in a quarter-final match lasting four hours and 5 minutes. Tsitsipas lost the first 2 sets badly, but then came back strongly and won the next three sets.

This is Tsitsippas’ second win in a career over Nadal. Earlier in 2019, Satsipas defeated Nadal 6-4, 2-6, 6-3 in the ATP Masters-1000. Both have come face to face 8 times so far. In this, Nadal won 6 and the Greek has won 2 times.
