Uttarakhand weather update: Snowfall expected on New Year

Due to the activation of Western Disturbance, the weather patterns from the plains to the mountains are going to change again in the next one or two days. There is a possibility of snowfall along with rain in Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Pithoragarh, Rudraprayag, Bageshwar districts of Uttarakhand.

According to the report released by the Meteorological Department, the minimum temperature is expected to reach four degrees in the plains of the state within the next one or two days. In such a situation, people will have to face extreme cold.

According to Vikram Singh, director of the Meteorological Center, the western disturbance is likely to become fully active in the next 24 hours. While there was light sunshine in the capital Doon today, there was light fog in many areas of the state. On the other hand, the maximum temperature in Doon is expected to be 21 degrees and the minimum temperature is likely to be five degrees.

Season’s first snowfall in Munsiyari, mercury dropped to -3 degrees

The weather changed on Friday. Snowfall occured on the peaks of Panchachuli, Rajarambha, Hansling in Munsiyari during the day while light rain started in the lower areas. Snowfall also occurred at Kalamuni, Khaliyatop, Balanti Eco Farms after the temperature dropped. Snow fell in Munsiyari and nearby villages as well. This resulted in a drop in the temperature of Munsiyari. The maximum temperature was recorded seven degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature minus 3 degrees Celsius. People had to resort to bonfires and heaters to avoid the cold. After snowfall, there is a possibility of increase in the number of tourists on New Year.

Snowfall in Vyas and Darma valleys as well

The high altitude areas of Darma and Vyas valley located in the higher Himalayan region of Dharchula also received heavy snowfall on Friday.
