Search continues for missing submarine; feared running out of oxygen

The submarine carrying people to see the wreckage of the Titanic ship was still missing for the fourth day. It is suspected that its oxygen would have run out at 5:30 pm on Thursday. There were 5 people in it.

Officers involved in the rescue team told that the search operation of the submarine will continue. 10 more ships and some submarines have also been launched in the operation. Apart from these, France will also launch its underwater robot in the sea.

Captain leading the operation said – ‘We do not know where those people are’. On Wednesday, the scope of the search has been increased based on the voices recorded from near the wreckage of Titanic. Now it is being found in an area twice as large as the US state of Connecticut. The area of Connecticut is 13,023 square km.

According to Reuters, the submarine was released into the Atlantic Ocean on Sunday evening at 5:30 pm Indian time. It holds oxygen for 96 hours.

BBC reported that the lack of oxygen in the submarine is not the only problem. While staying in the water, it is possible that the power supply may have stopped in it. If this happens, it will be impossible to create a balance between oxygen and carbon dioxide (CO2). According to the New York Times, the Titan submarine is only 22 feet long, which does not have a seat to sit.

Sounds heard in the deep

Earlier on Wednesday, an aircraft involved in the search operation from the Canadian side had heard some sounds with the help of a sonar-buoy. According to NN, it was recorded near the same place where the wreckage of Titanic is located. The voices were recorded at intervals of about 30 minutes. Then after 4 hours the sonar again detected them.

On Sunday, a tourist submarine went missing in the Atlantic Ocean. It had a pilot and 4 passengers on board. According to The Guardian, on the afternoon of June 18, the submarine disappeared from radar 1 hour 45 minutes after going in the water. It has only 96 hours of life support. It is also not known whether the submarine is still in the water or has come to the surface.

As per latest update, the US coast guard has said to have found the ‘debris field’ within the search area by a remotely operated vehicle (ROV) near the Titanic wreck.
