So far 280 lives lost in the Odisha train accident, PM Modi calls meeting

Six to seven coaches of the Coromandel Express derailed and collided with a train coming on another track in Odisha’s Balasore on Friday evening. According to the late night update released by the news agency PTI, so far 280 passengers have been confirmed dead in the accident while more than 900 people have been injured. Officials said the accident took place at Bahanaga Bazar station at around 7:20 pm when the Coromandel Express was on its way to Chennai Central from Shalimar station near Kolkata. A South Eastern Railway official said that accident relief trains have been dispatched to the accident site. After the accident, 300 passengers have been evacuated by running a quick rescue operation. Relief and rescue operations are on.

What is the reason for the Odisha train accident?

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw reached the spot to know the progress of the rescue operation on the Odisha train accident. He also interacted with journalists and told that the reason behind the horrific train accident is not yet clear. An inquiry committee has been formed for this.

Till now 42 trains canceled, 38 route changed

After this train accident, 42 trains have been canceled so far. At the same time, the routes of 38 have been changed. Some trains have also been partially cancelled while some have been canceled altogether.
