Nainital Metropole demolished 134 illegal encroachments, now parking will be built on over 8 acres of land
After demolishing 134 encroachments from enemy property in the town’s Mallital Metropole area, the district administration is now preparing a proposal to use the entire 8.72 acres of land for parking. This proposal will be sent to the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India.
After getting permission from the Office of Custodian of Enemy Property, it can be used for parking. If parking is built on the entire property, its capacity will be more than one and a half thousand vehicles. The district administration has plans to demolish the Metropole hotel built in 1880 along with other unused buildings. Correspondence is being done to the government for this. Parking has become a big problem in the tourist season in the lake town.
Due to paucity of parking, tourist vehicles are parked at the Rusi Bypass, about six kilometers away. Then tourists are brought to the city by shuttle service. Due to parking of luxury vehicles six km away, the inflow of high income group tourists is also decreasing year by year. At present, temporary parking is running in a part of Metropol since 2019 after getting permission from the central government.
Enemy property, Metropole once had a hotel of 75 rooms, 16 cottages, 24 servant quarters. The portion where the parking is currently located was a tennis court. Now there is a plan to demolish these dilapidated buildings. District Magistrate Vandana Singh said that there is a plan for parking in the entire enemy property.
The Public Works Department has been entrusted with the task of preparing the project. The PWD team has also done inspection. A proposal is being sent to the Government of India to allow parking in the entire enemy property. The income from parking will be deposited in the fund of the Ministry of Home Affairs. Work is going on fast on this. Its positive results will come soon.
