Rivers in spate after incessant rains in Himachal, Uttarakhand, Delhi

The northern states of the country including Delhi, Punjab and Himachal are witnessing flood like situation due to torrential rain. In the last 24 hours, 56 people reportedly died in separate incidents of landslides and floods in seven states.

Heavy rains have wrecked havoc from the mountains to the plains. Himachal seems to be worst affected due to heavy rains. The record of 52 years of rain has been broken in Manali. Himachal CM has appealed to the people to stay at home for the next 24 hours. Many rivers and canals in the state are above the danger mark. Cloud burst was reported in two places.

Along with Beas in Kullu, Parvati and Tirthan rivers are also in spate. In different areas of the state, 60 vehicles were washed away in the strong current of water. At the same time, 6 vehicles were washed away in water in Kullu’s Kasaul.

In Punjab, 15 to 20 villages near the Sutlej river have been evacuated. At the same time, due to heavy rains in Leh-Ladakh, a 450-year-old house collapsed. In Himachal, 46 houses were destroyed.

The total rainfall of the country is now more than normal. The normal rainfall till July 9 was 239 mm. Now the figure has crossed it to 243 mm, which is 2% more.

The record of 41 years of rain in Delhi has been broken. Water logged roads were a common site in Gurugram. A warning has been issued regarding the rising water level in Yamuna. It has reached close to the danger mark.

Forecast for next 24 hours

Heavy rain will occur in these states: Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi, Bihar, Sikkim, West Bengal, Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Odisha, Goa, Karnataka and Kerala.

Light rain will occur in these states: Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Maharashtra and Jharkhand may receive light rain with lightning.
