Study on carrying capacity of 15 hill towns to be conducted after monsoon

In view of the increasing pressure of buildings and population, the study of carrying capacity of all the major cities of the state will start after the monsoon. The Uttarakhand Landslide Mitigation and Management Center of the Disaster Management Department has started its process. Expert agencies will be empaneled for the study.

For this, tenders will be invited by the Center soon. In the first phase, the carrying capacity of 15 cities of the state will be studied. This list includes big cities with dense population like Mussoorie, Nainital, Gopeshwar, Pauri. After the Joshimath landslide incident, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami had given instructions to study the bearing capacity of all the cities of the state.

In this context, this work has been given to the Disaster Management Department. The Landslide Mitigation and Management Center of the department has started the exercise to execute this work. Secretary Disaster Management Dr. Ranjit Sinha has confirmed this. The expert agency will investigate every aspect responsible for the menace in the hill towns. For example, on how many degrees of slope are the buildings being constructed. On how many slopes are there buildings of how many floors, which are in danger from the point of view of disaster. How many floors of buildings should be built on how many degrees of slope? What are the land and places of hilly cities, where construction of buildings can be dangerous.

15 cities will be studied in the first phase

Mussoorie, Nainital, Pauri, Karnprayag, New Tehri, Uttarkashi, Lansdowne, Ranikhet, Nainital, Kapkot, Dharchula, Champawat, Pithoragarh, Almora, Bhawali will be surveyed in the first phase.
