Automated milk plant to be set up in Lalkuan

To promote milk production in Uttarakhand, an automated milk plant will be set up at Lalkuan in Nainital district at a cost of Rs 80 crore. Consent for this plant has been received at the government level. Soon the proposal will be sent to the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD). The capacity of this plant will be two lakh liters of milk per day. This will be the first such automated plant in the state in which the work from milk testing to packaging will be done with modern machines.

11 milk plants are operated across the state through the Milk Development Department. More than 50 thousand farmers are associated with 2600 milk cooperative societies. About two lakh liters of milk is collected every day. The state government aims to increase milk production. But till now there is no big automated milk plant in the state.

The department has prepared a proposal to expand the years old milk plant in Lalkuan and set up a milk plant worth Rs 80 crore. Joint Director of the department, Jaideep Arora said that the installation of this plant will boost the marketing of milk collected from the Kumaon region. Testing and packaging of milk will be done with modern machines in the plant.
