Axar Patel out of World Cup squad due to injury; R Ashwin named as replaecment

Indian team’s all-rounder Axar Patel has been ruled out of ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. Axar Patel suffered an injury during the Asia Cup 2023, from which he has not been able to recover yet. In such a situation, the Board of Control for Cricket in India i.e. BCCI has had to announce his replacement. International Cricket Council i.e. ICC has confirmed that Axar Patel will not play World Cup 2023. In his place, all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin will be part of the team.

The ICC has informed on its website that India has been forced to make late changes to its 15-man squad for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup. Axar Patel has failed to recover in time for the World Cup after suffering a left quadriceps strain during India’s Asia Cup Super Four clash against Bangladesh and as a result the spin bowling all-rounder has been ruled out of the World Cup.

In place of Axar Patel, experienced off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has been included in the team, who has reached Guwahati for the practice match of Team India. He made an impressive comeback into the ODI team in the recently concluded three-match ODI series against Australia. He took four wickets in two matches. Axar was also conditionally selected in the team for the final ODI on the basis of his fitness, but he could not get fit.
