India preparing to explore the sea after moon and sun; know all about Samudrayaan

After the moon and the sun, now it is the turn of the ocean. India is preparing to send its first manned maritime mission which has been named Samudrayaan. In this mission, there is a plan to send three people in the indigenous submarine Matsya-6000 to a depth of 6 kilometers underwater.

What is Samudrayaan Mission?

Under the Samudrayaan project, there is a plan to successfully carry three people inside the deep sea to a depth of 6,000 meters. India’s first manned ocean mission ‘Samudrayaan’ was launched from Chennai in October 2021. Samudrayaan is an indigenous ocean mission launched by the Union Ministry of Earth Sciences.

Six thousand crore rupees have been allocated for this entire Samudrayaan project. The submersible to be used in it has been named Matsya-6000 which is made of titanium metal. Its diameter is 2.1 meters. This vehicle is capable of taking three people into the depths of the ocean.

Pictures related to the Samudrayaan mission were revealed on Monday. Sharing pictures of Matsya-6000 to be used in the mission, Union Earth Sciences Minister Kiren Rijiju said that it is being constructed at the National Institute of Ocean Technology located in Chennai. Along with this, the Minister said that the plan to study deep sea resources in Samudrayaan will not disturb the marine ecosystem. This scheme supports the Prime Minister’s blue economy policy.

What is its purpose?

The manned submersible Matsya-6000 carrying vehicle in the mission will facilitate direct observation by humans in the deep sea in search of rich mineral resources like nickel, cobalt, rare earth elements, manganese etc. Along with this, the mission will collect many types of samples which can be used for later analysis.

Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh said that as a benefit, the mission will promote scientific research and technological empowerment. Apart from this, this mission will promote property inspection, tourism and marine literacy.

India’s maritime domain is vast with nine coastal states and 1,382 islands along with a coastline of 7,517 kilometres. According to the minister, the mission aims to promote the Union government’s vision of ‘New India’ that highlights the blue economy as one of the ten key dimensions of development.

When will Matsya-6000 be sent ?

Matsya-6000 is expected to be ready for testing by the second quarter of 2024. Dr. Jitendra Singh has said that the Samudrayaan campaign is likely to be realized in the next three years. He said that the design of this vehicle has been prepared and the work of manufacturing various components and components of the vehicle is in progress. It has a storage capacity of 12 hours under normal operation and 96 hours in emergency for human safety.
