US Open 2023: Medvedev defeats Alcaraz; to face Djokovic in Final
There will be a clash between Novak Djokovic and Russia’s Daniil Medvedev in the final of US Open 2023. Daniil Medvedev defeated 20-year-old Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz 7-6, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 in the second semi-final of the US Open 2023.
Medvedev has also won the US Open 2021 title before this. He had then defeated Novak Djokovic in the final. The defeat before the finals for Alcaraz means that he will lose the ATP number 1 ranking to Djokovic irrespective of the result on Sunday. Alcaraz who had won the title last year was looking to become the first man since Roger Federer to successfully defend the final Grand Slam of the year. Federer had won the tournament from 2004 to 2008.
Medvedev and Djokovic have met 14 times so far with the Serb leading their head to head 9-5. The pair has met 2 times in 2023 with Djokovic winning in Adelaide and Medvedev winning in Dubai.
