ICC World Cup 2023: Australia becomes third team to qualify for semi finals

The Australian team has defeated Afghanistan by 3 wickets, spoiling its plans to cause a fourth major upset in the World Cup 2023. It was a on man show by all-rounder Glenn Maxwell, as he snatched an impossible victory from the jaws of defeat. Glenn Maxwell scored the maiden double century of his career while battling cramps. The 35 year old scored an unbeaten 201  runs in 128 balls for Australia. Glenn Maxwell’s innings included 21 fours and 10 sixes.

Australia won the lost game

After winning the toss and batting first, Afghanistan team scored 291 runs after losing 5 wickets in 50 overs and set a target of 292 runs for Australia to win. For Afghanistan, Ibrahim Zadran scored the highest score of 129 runs, while Rashid Khan played an inning of 35 runs in 18 balls. Fast bowler Josh Hazlewood took maximum 2 wickets for Australia. Whereas, Mitchell Starc, Glenn Maxwell and Adam Zampa got 1 wicket each. In response to the target of 292 runs, the Australian team scored 293 runs in 46.5 overs and won the match by 3 wickets.

Afghanistan gave Australia a target of 292 runs

21-year-old Ibrahim Zadran became the first batsman for Afghanistan to score a century in the World Cup on Tuesday, helping the team score a strong score of 291 runs for five wickets against Australia. Opener Zadran played an unbeaten inning of 129 runs in 143 balls with eight fours and three sixes. Afghanistan team was successful in adding 64 runs in the last five overs. Rashid Khan batted brilliantly in the death overs and scored unbeaten 35 runs in 18 balls. In reply Australia were staring at a big defeat having lost their 7th wicket with 91 runs on board. But Pat Cummins alongwith Glenn Maxwell stitched together an unbeaten 202 run stand to take the 5 time champions into yet another semi final.
