Workers trapped in under-construction tunnel in Uttarkashi
On the day of Diwali, a major accident took place early in the morning in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand. About 36 laborers working here were trapped due to a landslide inside the tunnel under construction from Silkyara to Dandalgaon on Yamunotri National Highway. The police administration is engaged in rescue.
It was reported that more than 36 laborers are trapped inside the tunnel. District Disaster Management Uttarkashi has confirmed this. Five 108 ambulances have been deployed at the spot.
Work was going on here day and night. About a thousand laborers were engaged in the tunnel construction, who were working in different shifts. Construction of 4.5 km long tunnel will on going of which 500m was left. Which was targeted to be completed by February.
According to the information, the accident happened at 5:00 am on Sunday. This landslide occurred at a distance of 200 meters from the tunnel entrance towards Silkyara, while the workers who were working were 2800 meters inside the vehicle entrance.
