Car falls 300 meters into gorge in Chamoli district; 5 dead

Five people have died in a tragic road accident in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district. A police officer said that five people died after a car fell into a 300 meter deep gorge near Gadi village on Birhi-Nijmula road in Chamoli district. The incident took place on Friday at around 6:30 pm. On receiving the information, police from Chamoli police station reached the spot after which relief and rescue operations were started.

Chamoli Senior Superintendent of Police (SP) Sarvesh Panwar said that Chamoli police station received information that a black Alto K10 car fell off the road near Gadi village in Nijmula valley. The car was returning from a wedding ceremony in Pagana village. Meanwhile, the driver lost control over it and the car went off the road and fell into a 300 meter deep gorge.

The police officer said that there were five people in the car. All were residents of Golim village near Gopeshwar. All of them died on the spot. Efforts were on to retrieve the bodies of the deceased. The police officer said that the investigation of the accident is going on. The police investigation team is trying to find out what was the real cause of the accident.
