First time in Doon: AQI remained above 300 for more than 12 hours

For the first time in Dehradun, the Air Quality Index (AQI) remained above 300 for more than 12 consecutive hours. The AQI reached a maximum of 385 at midnight on Tuesday. The average AQI was recorded at 318, the highest recorded on a normal day so far. In the last few days, there has been an increase in tourist activity in Dehradun due to New Year celebrations. People are having bonfires, etc. In addition, the lack of rain and wind is also contributing to the increased pollution levels.

Rain and snowfall expected in the hills today and tomorrow

The Meteorological Department has predicted rain and snowfall in the hilly districts on January 1st and 2nd, while a yellow alert has been issued for dense fog in the plains. Rohit Thapliyal, a scientist at the Meteorological Department, said that light rain and snowfall are possible at some places in Uttarkashi, Chamoli, and Pithoragarh districts on January 1st. Besides this, light rain is also possible at some places in Tehri, Pauri, Rudraprayag, and Bageshwar in Kumaon.
