Initiative to link medicine control system with technology and quality in Uttarakhand

A one-day state level workshop was organized on Saturday at the Food Safety and Drug Administration (FDA) office in the capital Dehradun to strengthen the drug regulation system technically and to build the capacity of the officers. This workshop was jointly organized by Drug Control Officers (I) Welfare Association and DCGI WU Uttarakhand Chapter. Senior officials, experts and industrial representatives associated with drug regulation actively participated in the program.
The program was inaugurated by Uttarakhand Government Secretary (Medical, Health and Family Welfare) and FDA Commissioner Dr. R. Rajesh Kumar with the lighting of the lamp. In his address, he said, “In today’s time, the quality of medicines is not only related to health, but also to social trust. It is our responsibility that every medicine available in the market is safe, effective and meets scientific standards. Continuously training regulatory officials and empowering them from a technical point of view is an extremely necessary step in this direction.”
Additional Commissioner (Food and Drugs) Tajdar Singh Jaggi, former FDA Controller (Haryana) N.K. attended the workshop. Ahuja, DCGI (IWU) National President Kothevar Rao, General Secretary Balendra Chaudhary and other dignitaries were present.

Keynote speaker Kothevar Rao, while highlighting the current challenges of drug regulation and the role of DCGI (IWU), said, “Drug control officers should remain updated with legal provisions as well as technological innovations, so that they can ensure effective regulation.”
Practical session on GMP analysis and labeling – N.K. Ahuja
Former FDA Controller N.K. Ahuja gave a detailed lecture on sample analysis of medicines, GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) and labeling standards. He made the officers aware of the practical aspects related to labeling.

Additional Commissioner (Food and Drugs) Tajdar Singh Jaggi said, “Our effort is to make the drug control system in Uttarakhand more transparent, accountable and technically capable. In this direction, continuous dialogue and cooperation between the department, industry and experts is extremely necessary.”
