National Ice Skating Championship in Dehradun
On Sunday, Sports Minister Rekha Arya visited the Himadri Ice Rink at the Maharana Pratap Sports College to encourage the athletes competing in the 21st National Ice Skating Championship.
The title matches of the competition are scheduled to begin on Monday. Speaking on the occasion, the Sports Minister remarked that Uttarakhand is carving a niche for itself—both nationally and globally—not only in tourism but also in winter sports.
The Himadri Ice Rink is the country’s only state-of-the-art, world-class indoor ice rink, and it is giving a new direction to the state’s sporting capabilities.
She noted that athletes are showcasing their talent in Olympic disciplines such as short track and figure skating. This event will not only promote ice skating in the country but also establish Uttarakhand as a state capable of hosting major sporting events.
