Uttarakhand weather update: Drop in temperature due to rain and cold winds

The weather pattern in the region has undergone a complete transformation. Temperatures have plummeted due to cold winds and dense fog. Even in the month of May, people have begun to experience the biting chill of severe winter. Continuous rainfall has cast a pall of silence over major markets—including Mussoorie’s Mall Road—while waterlogging and slippery conditions have disrupted daily life.

In Mussoorie, the “Queen of the Hills,” continuous rainfall has brought daily life to a complete standstill. The incessant rain has caused a sudden drop in temperature, making the weather feel reminiscent of the deep winter months of December and January. On Wednesday, the rain left major markets—including Mall Road—deserted; while tourists remained confined to their hotels, local residents faced difficulties in carrying out their daily chores. Schoolchildren and office-goers alike had to endure significant inconvenience.

The continuous rainfall has resulted in a noticeable drop in temperature. Driven by cold winds and fog, people have begun to reach for their warm clothing. This sudden shift in weather patterns has evoked memories of winter during the months of April and May. The rain has also led to waterlogging and slippery conditions in various parts of the city. Along with the rain, a thick blanket of fog has enveloped the city, causing the maximum temperature to plummet to a low of 14 degrees Celsius.
