
CBSE has approved draft rules to conduct class 10 board exams twice a year from 2026. Under this, the examination will be conducted in two phases. The first phase will be in February-March and the second phase in May. Both exams will be conducted on the full syllabus.
What is in the draft?
- The entire syllabus will be included in both the phases of class 10 board exam.
- The first phase will be held in February-March, while the second phase will be in May.
- Separate results will be declared for both the phases of the examination.
- However, practical or internal assessment will be done only once.

As per the newly approved draft guidelines, the Class 10 board exams will be conducted in two phases. The first phase will be held between February and March, while the second phase will be scheduled in May. Both the exams will cover the entire syllabus, ensuring a comprehensive assessment of the knowledge and skills of the students.
Feedback sought till this date
According to the official information, the draft norms will now be put in the public domain and stakeholders can give their feedback by March 9, after which the policy will be finalised. As per the draft norms, the first phase of the exam will be conducted from February 17 to March 6, while the second phase will be conducted from May 5 to 20.
What is the system currently?
Currently, board exams for class 10th and 12th are conducted between February and March. During the COVID-19 pandemic, CBSE had divided the board exams into two sessions as a one-time measure. However, the board reverted to the traditional year-end examination format the following year.
