Delhi government’s big decision! Strict action on goods vehicles from November 1st, only BS-VI and EV vehicles allowed
In light of the rising pollution in Delhi, the government has taken a major decision. Starting November 1, 2026, entry of goods vehicles into the capital will be tightened. Only BS-VI, CNG, and electric vehicles will be permitted to enter Delhi. The aim is to reduce pollution and provide clean air in the city. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has stated that this time the rules will be strictly enforced. Similar regulations were introduced previously, but were postponed. This time, every vehicle will be monitored using a digital system to ensure proper compliance.
Strict monitoring will be done through a digital system
The government is now going to further strengthen the “No PUC, No Fuel” rule. ANPR cameras, or Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR), will be used. This system will automatically record information about vehicles on the roads. Digital tracking will also help determine which vehicles are complying with the rules and which are not. This will enable immediate action against vehicles entering the city illegally. This step could prove to be very helpful in controlling pollution.
Special Focus on EVs and Public Transport
The government aims to make Delhi an electric vehicle hub. To achieve this, it plans to install approximately 32,000 new EV charging points over the next four years. Two-wheelers and commercial vehicles will be particularly encouraged. Additionally, a fleet of 13,760 buses is targeted to be developed by 2029 to provide better public transportation. This will reduce the use of private vehicles and reduce pollution.
New Preparations to Reduce Dust and Garbage
Dust and garbage are a major cause of pollution. Keeping this in mind, the government has set deadlines for the removal of landfill sites. The target is to clean the Okhla landfill by July 2026, Bhalswa by December 2026, and Ghaziabad landfill by December 2027. Additionally, the use of mechanical cleaning and anti-smog guns will be increased to reduce dust on the roads. This will improve air quality.
Control will be achieved through AI and smart technology
The government will now also utilize artificial intelligence. Dust emanating from construction sites will be monitored through C&D Portal 2.0. Smart traffic systems will be installed at 62 locations, reducing congestion. A green war room will also be established, where pollution will be monitored 24 hours a day. This will facilitate timely action and control the situation. If pollution increases significantly, the government may change office hours or implement work from home. This will reduce the number of vehicles on the roads and help keep the air clean.
