Delhi-NCR record season’s worst AQI

Pollution in Delhi has remained at a very dangerous level for the last 6 days. On Monday morning, the average AQI was recorded at 481. AQI 495 was recorded in Ashok Vihar and Bawana areas. The AQI level in Gurugram reached 576.
Due to pollution, many areas of Delhi are covered with smog. Visibility has come down to 150 meters in some areas including Palam. Due to this, flights have been affected. On Monday morning, Indigo and SpiceJet flights took off with a delay of 1 hour.
In view of the increasing pollution, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has implemented the fourth phase of the changed Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) in Delhi-NCR from 8 am on 18 November 2024.
Also, schools up to class 9 have been asked to run online classes. Masks have been made mandatory for children of class 10th-12th.
On the other hand, an order has been issued to close primary schools in 5 districts of Haryana. GRAP-4 restrictions have also been implemented in 14 districts.
Delhi CM Atishi said – All classes except 10th and 12th will be online. With the implementation of GRAP-4, many restrictions have been imposed. Also, children, elderly, respiratory and heart patients, chronic diseases victims have been advised to stay indoors.
More than 2,200 old vehicles seized
The Delhi Transport Department seized 2,234 more vehicles between October 1 and November 15, which were very old. This step was taken in view of the deteriorating air quality in the capital. These include 260 diesel four-wheelers older than 10 years, 1,156 petrol two-wheelers and 818 petrol three and four-wheelers older than 15 years. This action will continue till December. An online portal has been launched for scrapping or sale of seized vehicles.
