Door-to-Door Income Survey to Begin April 2026, Aiming to Map India’s True Earnings
For the first time in the country, data on national household income is being collected. This initiative is also set to commence in Uttarakhand starting April 2026. To ensure the success of this survey, the National Statistical Office (Field Operations Division) organized a three-day training program focused on the National Household Income Survey and the Annual Survey of Enterprises in the Corporate Service Sector.
Held at the auditorium of the Forest Survey of India, the training program—which ran from March 16 to March 18, 2026—was inaugurated by Deputy Director General and Regional Head, Kedar Nath Verma. Participants were provided with detailed and crucial information regarding the survey’s methodology, data collection, verification, and reporting procedures.
Officials stated that the National Household Income Survey is being conducted on a comprehensive scale across the country for the very first time. Its objective is to gather accurate and up-to-date data regarding household income. The survey is scheduled to be conducted from April 2026 through March 2027.
According to experts, data on income derived from salaries, agriculture, business, wages, and other sources will be collected by conducting door-to-door visits to selected households; this process will enable an accurate assessment of the country’s actual income status.
Officials further noted that this survey will play a pivotal role in achieving the goals of ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’ (Developed India 2047) and will prove instrumental in the formulation of public policy.
